grobag® baby sleeping bag is announced as FSID’s official partner
July 2005
grobag® the UK’s leading baby sleeping bag from gro-group®, is now recommended by The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), a leading baby charity, as its only baby sleeping bag specialist.
The partnership between gro-group®; and FSID is exclusive to grobag® baby sleeping bags. Only the grobag® baby sleeping bag will be the official FSID partner with both companies working together to promote safer sleeping for babies.
The two organisations have been working in partnership since 2000 when Rob and Ouvrielle Holmes, creators of the grobag® baby sleeping bag, approached FSID for advice on how to best develop their product, recognising that loose bedding can be a danger to babies. As a result, every grobag® baby sleeping bag on sale meets the safety guidelines of FSID.
gro-group® will keep promoting the FSID safer sleep advice on its grobag® baby sleeping bag packaging and other informational materials, as well as continuing to help fund safer sleeping research by FSID.
Commenting on the news, Rob Holmes, said: “This is fantastic news for grobag® baby sleeping bags and we are thrilled to have strengthened our relationship with FSID. We will be continuing to work with FSID to communicate with parents about how to create a safer sleep environment.”
Joyce Epstein, Director, FSID, said: “We are delighted to be working with the grobag® team in what is our fifth year of collaboration. Rob and Ouvrielle came to us for safety advice 6 months before they launched and we were pleased to help them - it was obvious that safety was one of their main concerns from the start. Not only do the grobag® baby sleeping bags meet all our requirements in terms of their design and construction, but we appreciate the extra steps that have been taken to ensure their sleeping bags are used correctly by parents. For example, the free room thermometer that is supplied with every grobag® baby sleeping bag helps parents protect their baby from the dangers of overheating and on the reverse of the thermometer, parents are reminded of all the steps to make a safer sleeping environment for children. grobag® was the first dedicated baby sleeping bag manufacturer to come to us and ask for extensive help in the development of their products and we have been very happy to work with them and look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
FSID advises that parents ensure that babies’ heads remain uncovered whilst they are asleep in their cots.
Creating a safer environment for your baby
- Cut smoking in pregnancy - fathers too!
- Do not let anyone smoke in the same room as your baby
- Place your baby on the back to sleep
- Do not let your baby get too hot
- Keep baby’s head uncovered and avoid loose bedding
- If your baby is unwell, seek medical advice promptly
- The safest place for your baby to sleep is in a cot in your room for the first six months
- Do not share a bed with your baby if you or your partner are smokers (no matter where or when you smoke), have been drinking alcohol, take medication or drugs that make you drowsy, or feel very tired
- Never sleep with a baby on a sofa or armchair
