FSID - Giving babies the chance of a lifetime

grobag® has been working closely with FSID (The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths) since the very beginning, to help spread the word about how to help parents to create a safer sleeping environment for their baby. We also donate a substantial proportion of income each year to safe sleeping research.

FSID is a leading baby charity working to prevent sudden infant deaths and promote baby health. More than 20,000 lives have been spared as a result of their research and health awareness projects. But, cot death is still the leading cause of death in babies over one month old and more research is needed to save further lives.

Call FSID’s Helpline on 020 7233 2090 or email helpline@fsid.org.uk with your questions about reducing the risk of cot death and to get hold of a free BabyZone booklet on safe baby care.

grobag® is FSID's recommended baby sleeping bag specialist, and is grobag is proud to be FSID's official partner.

Joyce Epstein, Director, FSID, said: "We are delighted to be working with the grobag® team in what is our fifth year of collaboration. Rob and Ouvrielle came to us for safety advice 6 months before they launched and we were pleased to help them - it was obvious that safety was one of their main concerns from the start.

"Not only do the grobag® baby sleeping bags meet all our requirements in terms of their design and construction, but we appreciate the extra steps that have been taken to ensure their sleeping bags are used correctly by parents. For example, the free room thermometer that is supplied with every grobag® baby sleeping bag helps parents protect their baby from the dangers of overheating and on the reverse of the thermometer, parents are reminded of all the steps to make a safer sleeping environment for children.

"grobag® was the first dedicated baby sleeping bag manufacturer to come to us and ask for extensive help in the development of their products and we have been very happy to work with them and look forward to working with them for many years to come."

Advice for parents to reduce the risk of cot death:

  • Cut smoking in pregnancy – fathers too! And don’t let anyone smoke in the same room as your baby.
  • Place your baby on the back to sleep (and not on the front or side).
  • Do not let your baby get too hot, and keep your baby’s head uncovered.
  • Never sleep with a baby on a sofa or armchair.
  • The safest place for your baby to sleep is in a crib or cot in a room with you for the first six months.
  • It’s especially dangerous for your baby to sleep in your bed if you (or your partner): are a smoker, even if you never smoke in bed or at home, have been drinking alcohol, take medication or drugs that make you drowsy, feel very tired; or if your baby: was born before 37 weeks, weighed less than 2.5kg or 5½ lbs at birth, is less than three months old.
  • Don’t forget, accidents can happen: you might roll over in your sleep and suffocate your baby; or your baby could get caught between the wall and the bed, or could roll out of an adult bed and be injured.
  • Settling your baby to sleep with a dummy, even for naps, can reduce the risk of cot death, even if the dummy falls out while your baby is asleep.

Washing information

grobag® baby sleeping bags can be washed at 40°C and tumble dried on a low heat setting. As with all cotton goods, we have designed the baby sleeping bags to allow for up to 5% shrinkage.

Experience has told us that it is usually best to buy 2 grobag® baby sleeping bags – one to wear and one for the wash!

To ensure the long life of your baby sleeping bag the zip must be in the closed position throughout washing, tumble drying and ironing and it is advisable to turn the product inside out before washing.  Do not iron over the zip.
